Working at Albert Heijn, supermarket distribution
A day driving for Albert Heijn starts every day around 05.00 – 07.00 working around 10 to 12 hours a day.
Living within a 20-minute radius from the distribution center, situated near the city of Breda in the Southern Netherlands, offers a convenient commute. Some colleagues even opt for the Dutch tradition of biking to work. The planner hands you the bill of loading and the keys to your trailer truck, while drinking a cup of coffee.

The loading process at Albert Heijn involves pallets, with goods efficiently arranged and ready for loading at your designated dock shelter. The trailer, featuring various compartments, requires strategic loading to adhere to the “first in, last out” principle, emphasizing the importance of precise packing.

On a typical day, your route takes you to 2 to 10 supermarkets spread across the Netherlands. Loading and unloading is done with a fixed procedure. Returning empty goods, pallets and packing material comes with the job.

Your route is meticulously planned down to the minute. Efficiency in your tasks can result in timely returns, and planners acknowledge this by occasionally offering additional routes, providing an opportunity to extend your working hours.

After completing your work, you park your truck, return the keys, and head home. Whether it’s unwinding or grabbing groceries, your house – equipped with a full kitchen – is nearby. Enjoy the night and rest well for the challenges awaiting you tomorrow.

Competitive Compensation
The work of a truck driver is a tough job. Working long hours while having a big responsibility. A big part of the loading and unloading requires physical work. That’s why we compensate this work with the maximum salary scale in the Netherlands D6. An hourly standard rate of 18,35 euro per hour gross.

Working more than 40 hours during weekdays? These hours are compensated for with an extra 30%. Saturdays give an extra 50% and Sundays a whopping 100%. Night hours give an additional 19%.

But that’s not all. When working in the Netherlands you got a lot of extras.
• 8% holiday allowance. Extra on top of your salary and to be used whenever you need it.
• 8% holiday days. During these days you don’t have to work while getting a normal salary. You plan your holidays together with your planner.

Every Friday your salary is paid by our payroll partner Direct. They are fully certified and trustworthy in paying out your money. Every week.

Stable Schedule
This hourly rate might look great but it’s all about the number of hours you can produce. Every day, every week during the whole year.
Our clients offer a stable and predictable work schedule. Even in the slowest times of the year our drivers make a minimum of 40-45 hours. Our best drivers easily make up to 70 hours a week earning a net income of 4.000 euro a month.

Most drivers average a net income of about 3.400 euro a month plus allowances.

Quality Equipment
We work with the leading Dutch logistic companies. They are leading because they know the importance of working with well-maintained and modern trucks showcasing a commitment to safety, efficiency and driver well-being.
Use of modern dock shelters, forklifts, electronic pallet jacks…. It all contributes to the efficient work ethics the Dutch want to accomplish.
Professional planning and modern board computers make your workday easier.

Benefits Package
We offer health insurance at a competitive rate. Be sure to ask us about this because it gives you the comfort of knowing your health is in good hands when something happens.
Pension. This might not interest you right now but one day there will be extra monthly cash available for you.

Housing
Housing in the Netherlands is very hard to find and very expensive. That’s why we started to invest in our housing to offer you the best possible home at very competitive rates. All our houses are very modern, well equipped, and well maintained. You live with a maximum of 5-6 residents under one roof.

If you don’t mind sharing a room with a colleague, we don’t even charge you rent. That’s right, no weekly rent. Just compensation for the utilities you use such as water, electricity, gas, waste collection and internet. A sum of maximum 29 euros a week. That’s it.

You need more privacy? We offer single rooms at a weekly price of 75 euros of rent plus 29 euros for utilities.

Career Advancement
All our clients offer in-house training. This is standard procedure. At Albert Heijn the training usually takes 5 to 10 days depending on your experience and skills. You will be monitored closely by the planners as you start working. Extra training can help you work efficiently.

This is key when you strive to work maximum hours. Efficient drivers get the most work. If you work hard and efficient planners will give you the extra routes, the extra work, the extra hours… Work on Sundays when there’s no backup is only granted to the best drivers that can handle the situation by themselves.

You got the right attitude? Communicating and being reliable? Other training programmes become available. We have drivers that started as box truckdriver and are now driving double deck trailers….

Struggling with the language barrier. No problem. We have our inhouse language teacher that can help you with your English and will focus on your day-to-day vocabulary.
